About Us

Who We Are

Birth, Photo: Rita Hadley

Convergence is a community of people who value creativity, spirituality, diversity and exploration. We believe that imagination, creativity, and the arts are spiritual matters and their cultivation is of benefit to the church, our local community, and our world. Convergence as a larger community is suported by the Church at Convergence, a Christian church whose mission is to be a resource to the artists of the Northern Virginia/Washington DC area.

Through collaboration with local arts organizations, artists, counselors and local churches we provide resources of space, community, professional and spiritual development.

The Gallery at Convergence

Convergence offers artist studios to more than 10 local painters, fashion designers, writers and art educators as well as rehearsal and performance, classroom and workshop space. This year Convergence partnered with Empowered Women International and Marga's Art Business Academy to provide artists professional development, art marketing classes, support networks and coaching services.

We have created partnerships with the Arlington Artists Alliance, the Songwriter's Association of Washington, Journeymen Theater Ensemble, Taproots Writing groups with Nina Sichel as well as several independant artists and performing arts groups.. In addition we provide regular support groups for artists through Artist's Way groups, Worship Gatherings on Sunday nights at 5:00 pm in the Lab and several other opportunities for exploration of the connection between art and faith.

At Convergence attention and permission is given to ask questions, explore, experiment, and sometimes explode. Grace and forgiveness abounds. We encourage people to make mistakes, cry and laugh out loud!

Within the larger Convergence community exists a church family. Our mission is to receive, return, and share with others the love of Jesus Christ in our words and actions.  We gather for worship on Sunday afternoons at 5pm, but our primary ministry is to support the overall mission of Convergence by providing spiritual resources to artists, and by helping all people discover their God-given creativity.

Spiritual Resources

We believe the artist's imagination and rich interior life are of great value. We foster an environment where this is nurtured.

Professional Development

We partner with people who are vibrant contributors to our community to provide holistic resources to foster healthy, imaginative, empowered people and artists. Our classes are geared towards professional artists and beginners.

Space

We are a resource to the person, the Creative. We provide the resource of space at accessible cost in a nurturing environment within which artists and arts organizations can build and grow.

Community

Convergence is a place to contribute and be heard within a larger community where process, insight and experiences are valued.
